With two pairs of timepieces, Vacheron Constantin celebrates Japanese folk graphics and draws on its tradition of craftsmanship to offer two interpretations, one classic and the other modern, of a motif rich in symbolism.

Once again, Vacheron Constantin transcends its role as watchmaker to take on those of artist, explorer and historian. In fact, the Geneva-based manufacture is traveling back in time to the rich folkloric culture of Japan, which it translates and transcribes onto its watches, as with Eternal flow and Moonlight slivers, the models that make up the Métiers d’Art Tribute to traditional symbols series. These two pairs of timepieces, each produced in white or pink gold and limited to 15 pieces per reference, reinterpret the Seawater Cliff motif, a design long reserved for the Japanese imperial family and today synonymous with good luck.

Seawater Cliff, representing a tide-beaten mountain rising to the sky, embodies the stability of territorial strength. For the more classical Eternal flow, the Vacheron Constantin workshops used cloisonné enamel (on the dial) and engraving (on the 38mm-diameter case), while for the more modern Moonlight slivers, they used Grand Feu enamel, enamel engraving and gem-setting. At the center of these Geneva Hallmark-approved miniature paintings, a pair of leaf-style hands discreetly display the hours and minutes under the impulse of caliber 2460, a 4hz movement that winds itself automatically by the to-and-fro motion of its engraved gold oscillating weight and delivers a power reserve of around 40 hours.

As the year draws to a close, the Manufacture unveils a pair of rose gold watches, powered by hand-wound calibers and awarded the Poinçon de Genève hallmark, whose faces sport a beautiful radiant green.

In the northern hemisphere, chilly nature has just donned an autumn coat of warm yellows, oranges and reds, before the first snows fall in a few weeks’ time, while Vacheron Constantin is inviting spring into its most timeless collection. The Geneva-based manufacture has chosen a beautiful green, symbol of hope and luck, to dress a pair of Traditionnelle manual-winding timepieces.

Olive, khaki, sage, sometimes emerald: the color awakens, radiant, under the caress of rose gold, offering different tones according to the light. This precious metal with its coppery reflections makes up the cases of this Poinçon de Genève-approved pair, offered in two sizes, 38mm in diameter and 33mm, whose bezel is lined with a dazzling ribbon of 54 brilliant-cut diamonds. Each houses its own 4hz hand-wound movement: the caliber 4400 AS delivers 65 hours of power reserve for one, the caliber 1440 42 for the other. Delimited by a fine white minute track, the watch dials indicate time by means of dauphine-shaped gold hands hovering over applied hour-markers, with seconds displayed in a counter at 6 o’clock or in the center, depending on the model. Its intensely verdant hue spreads across the square-scaled alligator leather strands of the bracelets, which are finished off with rose gold pin buckles.

In order to realize the dream of an enthusiast of fine mechanics, both automotive and horological, the Geneva-based company has deployed all its know-how and designed a spectacular unique edition dashboard watch equipped with a armillary tourbillon.

Since 2006, Vacheron Constantin has had a workshop specializing in made-to-measure instruments produced in unique editions: Les Cabinotiers, whose name is borrowed from the history of watchmaking and the tradition of this exclusive 18^th-century craft. This year, Les Cabinotiers Armillary Tourbillon, a spectacular unique timepiece adapted to the interior of an also unique Rolls Royce Amethyst Droptail, was created in response to a challenge from a customer with a passion for both automobiles and timepieces.

The result of a collaboration with Rolls Royce Coachbuild designers, the object consists of a watch set in a base that blends harmoniously into the wood panels of the dashboard.

The first element of this duo features a steel case measuring 43.8mm in diameter and 19.9mm thick, housing the 1990 caliber, a Poinçon de Genève-approved manual-winding movement, clocked at the gentle frequency of 2.5hz and delivering 58 hours of energy. Modelled on the mauve hue of the saddlery, the dial takes up the spirit of a speedometer, with a biretrograde display of hours and minutes that spreads out in a double arc of a circle in the upper part, one inscribed in violet on a white ring and the other in silver printed on the sapphire dial. The lower part gives free rein to the tourbillon, allowing it to express itself freely by making this distinctive armillary structure dance. The second element is a slightly tonneau-shaped frame, also in steel, with polished edges, while the laser-textured, black PVD-coated interior houses the watch. It is completed by a cover with a lock in the shape of the Maltese cross, Vacheron Constantin‘s emblem.

The link between Vacheron Constantin and the “Middle Kingdom” can be traced back to the 19^th century. Since 2012, the Métiers d’art The Legend of the Chinese Zodiac has been celebrating the Chinese New Year. This time round, for classy Chinese lady connoisseurs, the Manufacture proposes a limited series of its Overseas Quartz produced in just 150 pieces. This version has been imagined around a 33 mm-diameter and 9.37 mm-slim rose gold case. 78 brilliant-cut diamonds (around 0.78 carats) dazzle on its six-sided bezel, a design that recalls the brand’s beloved Maltese cross. The dial features subtle shades, lacquered translucent denim blue enhanced with a satin-brushed sunburst finish. Above, exquisite hands hover over an hour chapter made up only of indexes. The presence of Super-LumiNova® on these components ensures excellent readability under any conditions of light. The luminescent paint captures light during the day and emits it in the dark. This magnificent piece hosts a quartz movement, the 1207 AS caliber, which drives the time data, including the date displayed in its aperture at 3 o’clock.

Less is more, as lovers of understated design like to remind us. The adornments of the new monochrome variation of Vacheron Constantin’s Traditionnelle Tourbillon watch must therefore be on a par with their stylistic standards. Inside the 41 mm-diameter, 10.4 mm-high slimline platinum case, a satin-brushed sunburst-finish green dial reigns supreme. The dauphine-type white-gold hour and minute hand duo hovers over an hour chapter made up exclusively of indexes. This well-spaced and somewhat-contrasted scenography gives pride of place to the regulating device twirling in its carriage at 6 o’clock.

This Latin expression is a perfect fit for Vacheron Constantin’s Dual Moon Grande Complication, which features a minute repeater, perpetual calendar, precision moon phases as well as a celestial chart. All these elements come to life inside a 46mm-diameter, 17.10 mm-thick white gold case. Face-side, the dial highlights a striking satellite display in the center. The scenography adorned with a celestial dome is embraced by an hour chapter along with three semi-circular segments where the day, the date and the month can be read. A discreet aperture specifies if the year is a leap year. No adjustment is required before 2100. On the other side of this elegant composition, constellations are unveiled in a star-studded sky. Sidereal time used by astronomers to calculate the meridian of the stars is read over 24 hours whilst the tourbillon in its Maltese cross-shaped carriage breathes life into this scenescape thanks to its constant one-minute rotations.

The eleven complications are accurately driven by the elaborate 2755 TMRCC QP caliber, assembled using 774 components. Even though these watches are smaller than their older siblings, they flaunt all the must-haves inherent to this sporty-chic range. Watches & Wonders Geneva 2023 recently came to a close. During the trade show, the manufacturer introduced the first retrograde display in its sporty-chic range.

For the first time in its collection of sports watches featuring a modernized design since 2016, Vacheron Constantin is introducing an original date display with the model Overseas Moon Phase Retrograde Date. As its name implies, a hand points to a semicircular scale positioned under an hour rim composed only of markers. Without the numbers, the date becomes easy to read. The omnipresent Super-LumiNova® coating on the hands and main markers further enhances legibility. On the translucent, deep blue dial, an aperture highlights the moon phases. A specially engineered mechanism, consisting of, among other things, a 135-tooth wheel, ensures that the phases of our satellite are displayed with, according to the manufacturer, “a variance between the mechanism and the true lunar cycle of only one day over a period of 122 years”.

The elegant 41mm-diameter steel case with its iconic hexagonal bezel holds the caliber 2460 R31L/2, assembled using 275 components. This self-winding movement delivers 40 hours of power reserve. Its precision is further enhanced by the inclusion of a soft iron case band that provides effective protection against the negative effects of magnetism. Thanks to the sapphire back, the gold oscillating weight can be seen. Whether the wristband is fashioned in steel, calf leather, or coordinated rubber, it can be replaced in a flash thanks to the practical interchangeability system. It is difficult to resist the subtle softness of its harmonious two-tone dial. The Geneva-based manufacturer has added a long-awaited version to its line of sporty chic watches!

Since 1999, Vacheron Constantin has included a chronograph in its Overseas collection that was created three years earlier. Numerous aesthetic enhancements enable it to remain as attractive as ever. This year, the Overseas Chronograph is given a new look thanks to its attractive “panda” dial. This setting naturally evokes the amiable plantigrades. Introduced on timepieces since the 1960s, it contrasts a clear dial, here silvered with a sunray satin finish, against black sub-dials. Today, this combination lends a vintage elegance to a contemporary timepiece, such as this Poinçon de Genève certified version.

Encircled by a black bezel bearing a precise seconds scale, this assembly integrates a steel case measuring 42.5mm in diameter that is water-resistant to a depth of 150 meters. The time data is precisely orchestrated by the double barreled 5200 caliber with column wheel. This self-winding movement composed of 263 different elements provides 52 hours of power reserve. Its traditional finishing and the gold oscillating weight decorated with a compass rose can be appreciated thanks to the sapphire crystal display of the case back. To further enhance its versatility, the manufacturer offers three easily interchangeable wristbands for the Overseas Chronograph. For women’s wrists craving delicacy and refinement, Vacheron Constantin proposes three exclusive watches. All are crafted in a 37mm-diameter rose gold case, showcasing the moon phases in a gemstone setting. Thus, the Égérie Phase de Lune model features a pleated pattern realized with the tapestry technique in the center of its silvered opaline dial. The earth’s satellite in gold and a cloud of mother-of-pearl creates a poetic display that can be found on all versions. The ensemble is encircled with 36 diamonds. Fifty-eight of these same precious gems are set in the bezel. This reference is worn on a wristband made of links machined from the same precious material used for the case.

A flurry of diamonds also showers the Égérie Phase de Lune Pavé Diamants watch, which comes with two interchangeable blue wristbands in leather or satin. Mythological creatures come to life through the craftsmanship dear to the Geneva manufacturer on the faces of three limited editions of only 16 pieces.

As the new lunar cycle approaches and the Chinese New Year begins, legendary animals appear in spectacular settings. Whether on a silver-tinted dial, an alternative with a dark blue, or a deep black obtained by galvanic treatment, this year a dragon and a phoenix in finely chiseled gold, arranged as an applique, grace Vacheron Constantin’s Traditionnelle Tourbillon Chinois watches. The design is encircled by a bezel decorated with an arabesque pattern reminiscent of clouds. Other intricate engravings embellish the case middle. Each of the 16 timepieces in this exclusive series highlights the expertise of the craftsmen as well as the dexterity of the manufacturer’s watchmakers in designing high-performance calibers.

The arrival of the new lunar cycle on January 22, 2023, marks the beginning of the Chinese New Year. On this occasion, Vacheron Constantin presents two limited editions, the Métiers d’Art The Legend of the Chinese Zodiac – Year of the Rabbit, celebrating the long-awaited event. As with previous creations, such as the versions dedicated to the year of the tiger, the expertise of the master engravers and enamellers gave rise to sublime dials featuring the consecrated animal. In a brown or blue pastoral background, depending on the version, a rabbit, symbol of benevolence, all in relief, engraved by hand, dominates the center of the composition. Remarkable is the fact that no hour or minute hands overload this delicate artistic scenography.

The time data is displayed in four separate apertures. One indicates the hours, another the minutes, the third the day, and the last the date. The trailing indications of the first two and the jumping information of the calendar are powered by the 2460 G4 caliber. This self-winding movement, made up of 237 components, provides 40 hours of power reserve. This mechanism, developed and manufactured in-house, integrates either a platinum or pink gold case, 40mm in diameter and 12.72mm thick. This is combined with an alligator leather wristband in a color coordinated with the dial, closed with a folding clasp. This fall, the Geneva-based manufacture unveils the Egérie Creative Edition, an exceptional timepiece crafted like precious embroidery, embodying the meeting of mechanical know-how and stylistic refinement, the encounter between four art crafts – enameling, guilloché, engraving and gem-setting – that express themselves in symbiosis.

Richly decorated, the face of this novelty is composed of a center pleated like a silky fabric and covered with translucent black enamel that hosts the trio of tapered hour, minute and second hands. A meticulously sculpted metal lace lined with diamonds bends the time indication while revealing a poetic bubble for the moon phases, two mother-of-pearl discs set against a starry sky that hide behind a plique-à-jour enamel cloud.

The white gold case, 37mm in diameter and 10.53mm thin, is entirely covered with diamonds, one of which is a rose-cut to cap the crown. This dazzling case houses the caliber 1088L, a 4hz automatic manufacture movement that delivers approximately 40 hours of power reserve. The yellow gold watch, a reissue of an elegant, sporty 1970s piece, presented by the Geneva-based manufacture at Watches and Wonders was a great success.

In 1977, Vacheron Constantin, a company founded in 1755, celebrated its 222^nd anniversary and to crown the event, presented a watch designed by Jorg Hysek. Its elegant, sporty look marked the catalog of the Geneva-based company, which was more accustomed to offering dress watches, and it was available in several sizes. It is the so-called Jumbo version that was chosen 45 years later to become part of the Historiques collection, a line of reissues carefully selected from Vacheron Constantin‘s rich heritage. Unveiled at Watches and Wonders, the Historiques 222 watch was an instant hit. However, while it appears to be a carbon copy of the original piece, it features some “aesthetic” changes, integrates a more ergonomic bracelet and embeds a contemporary engine.

Indeed, its yellow gold case, 37mm in diameter and 7.95 thick, marked with a small Maltese cross in white gold in the lower right-hand corner, houses the manufacture’s 2455/2 caliber, an automatic movement clocked at 4hz, delivering a 40-hour power reserve and equipped with a customized oscillating weight visible through the transparent back. Curved by a fixed bezel with a gear-like serration, the champagne-colored dial features an applied hour-circle and a pair of yellow gold Super-LumiNova®-coated central hour/minute hands that accentuate the vintage look of the whole. A date window at 3 o’clock completes the watch’s functionality.
