OCEANIC HUES

The independent Hölstein-based manufacture invites to discover a new array of attractive colors and boosts the performance of its appealing vintage-looking dive watch.

With these novel Divers Date pieces, Oris rolls out much more than just a simple stylistic upgrade of its model first released some 60 years ago. Back in 2015, the Divers Sixty-Five, boasting nostalgia-filled personality and driven by an up-to-the-minute caliber, already enthralled us. The latest iterations to date are infused with its codes yet feature enhanced waterproofness. The 39 mm-diameter steel case variation now flaunts resistance to depths of 200 meters versus 100 meters previously. This harmoniously-proportioned holder is topped by a domed sapphire crystal and a unidirectional bezel with ceramic insert adorned with a practical scale for underwater excursions.

In addition to the can’t-do-without black, two unprecedented shades feature on the dials. One goes for a fascinating resolutely-deep steel teal tone mixing hints of blue, green, and gray. The other dresses up in a beige that’s incredibly soft. No matter the chromatic option you choose, the white Super-LumiNova®-coated hands and markers contrast wonderfully well and ensure time data can be read easily under any conditions of light. These features as well as the date nestling at 6 o’clock continue to be driven by the selfwinding 733 caliber, which delivers a power reserve of 41 hours. These Divers Date are worn on a metal bracelet or on a complementary rubber strap included in the presentation box. The quick-change system means you can swap for one or the other anytime, anywhere. Style and versatility definitely guaranteed.

A FRUITY DUO

As summer finally takes hold in Switzerland, the Hölstein watch brand offers the chance to dive in the sea in the company of a pair of watches with refreshing faces, built for underwater adventures.

Winter melon or watermelon? Ripe strawberry or acid pear? With the long-awaited arrival of summer after a capricious spring in Switzerland, seasonal fruits, with pulp bursting with sunshine and sugar, are also appearing on market stalls, inspiring the Oris brand at the same time. Indeed, the Hölstein watchmaker has taken the vibrant hues of these juicy, thirst-quenching flesh and applied them to the faces of a duo of aptly named novelties, the Aquis Date Taste of Summer, offering color combinations as unprecedented as they are gourmand for this collection of off-roader watches.

The sturdy steel case measures 41.50mm in diameter, incorporates a screw-down crown and can withstand immersion to a depth of 300m, making the Aquis Date an ideal companion for underwater adventures. It is topped by a unidirectional, rotating, notched bezel that supports a white ceramic ring on which the diving scale has been engraved and then tinted kiwi green or watermelon red to match the dial.

In the center of the dial are two elongated sword-shaped hands and a second hand with a dot, all three coated with Super-LumiNova® and in charge of displaying hours, minutes and seconds by pointing to raised hour-markers. At 6 o’clock, a window displays the date in black on a white background. To power this stylish tool watch, fitted with a steel three-row bracelet and folding clasp, the brand chose the Oris caliber 733, a 4hz automatic movement that delivers 41 hours of power reserve when fully wound.

BRONZE, THE SYMBOL OF TIME

Two guardians of time, one who observes it and the other who measures it, fraternize to imagine a new watch produced in limited edition and whose warm gingery case is fashioned in bronze.

Recently, Oris has adopted bronze in two of its emblematic collections, Divers Sixty-Five and Big Crown, ranges populated by modern models inspired by the Swiss brand’s heritage. The latter, in fact, takes up the codes established by its first watch for aviators, unveiled in 1938 and produced without interruption until the present day. It has been chosen to symbolize the partnership with the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) through the Big Crown Pointer Date Father Time Limited Edition. Part of its name comes from the cast-iron Father Time weathervane overlooking Lord’s, the MCC’s London stadium, depicting the silhouette of an old man observing the passage of time. As the work was donated to the club in 1926, the Hölstein watchmaker used this figure to set the availability of its new model at 1,926 pieces.

Punctuated by a fine bezel and screw-down crown, both covered with fluting, the bronze case measures 40mm in diameter and features Father Time engraved in relief on its steel back. The case houses the Oris caliber 754, a 4hz movement with automatic winding by bidirectional oscillating weight, based on a Sellita SW 200-1 and providing a 38-hour power reserve.

The white dial, protected by a domed sapphire crystal, hosts a quartet of golden hands: two cathedral-style luminescent hands point to the large Arabic numerals and hour-markers on the black railway track to indicate the hours and minutes, a baton-shaped one displays the seconds, while the last, ending in a fleshy, red-varnished three-pointed star, highlights the current date. The Big Crown Pointer Date Father Time Limited Edition is worn with a choice of a bronze link bracelet with folding clasp or two strands of café au lait-colored Cervo Volante deer leather, both of which are supplied as standard.

CANDY CRUSH

Although the sepia from cuttlefish ink turns black, the well-known toning in photography tends to go for brown and even bronze. This new reference combines both.

After its Hölstein Edition 2020 boasting a bronze case, Oris rolled out a daring combination of dials in 2021 flaunting pastel shades with cases crafted in the same warm-hued alloy. As the end of the year comes around, the Divers Sixty-Five Cotton Candy is back, but with novel features. This model still takes on the 38 mm-diameter case, waterproof to depths of 100 meters, and still fashioned in this coppery metal yet, for this Sepia version, it twins up with a deep black dial. On top, the hour and minute hands, the lollipop-style direct-drive and the markers dressed in Super-Luminova® stand out wonderfully-well with their golden glint akin to the glimmer of the alloy used for the case. A discreet date nestles at 6 o’clock. And, to ensure there’s no risk of allergy from this metal, the caseback is made of steel.

This watch pursues its route with the Caliber 733. This selfwinding movement comes with a stop-seconds system, which ensures accurate time setting. What’s more, it delivers 38 hours’ autonomy to the watch. And, just like the other bronze pieces imagined by Oris, the Divers Sixty-Five Cotton Candy Sepia will develop a patina over time in line with its owner’s lifestyle. The manufacture has opted for unstable bronze. This reference can be worn on a rubber strap or, for a perfect match, on an alternative bracelet, comprised of links forged in the same metal as the case, and attached by a folding clasp.

A TOOL FOR UNDERWATER EXPLORATION

For modern-day homo-delphinus, the manufacture unveils a diver boasting rock-solid waterproofness, driven by the exclusive in-house caliber.

Forever a step further. For some brands, this motto is an invitation to explore underwater worlds. 1904-founded Oris is one of these, which started imagining dive watches back in the 1960s that have constantly pushed back the limits. The new AquisPro 4000m capable, as its name suggests, of rubbing shoulders with the world’s abyss thanks to its waterproofness tried and tested to depths of 4,000 meters, has turned this desire into reality. And, just like the previous references, this model features the latest innovations which improve performance and safety, such as the Rotation Safety System integrated in the bezel, set off with an azure-hued ceramic insert.

The most important thing when diving is to be able to control and handle your timepiece easily. This Aquis, with its large, lightweight 49.50 mm-diameter titanium case, meets all these criteria in every way. Moreover, time data reading is impeccable. The omnipresent Super-LumiNova® boosts this facility. The white markers and hands contrast perfectly with the gradient-toned blue dial decorated with a wave pattern. To ensure excellent wearer comfort, the AquisPro 4000m is complemented by a rubber strap attached by a folding clasp that adjusts to fit the wrist securely. The watch actually goes just as well with casual gear as with a wetsuit. Performance is also the name of the game here when it comes to engineering as the model’s equipped with the Caliber 400. This selfwinding movement delivers 120 hours of autonomy to the watch, i.e. a power reserve that’s much greater than current standards. Although it’s not certified, it guarantees accuracy of -3/+5 seconds a day, totally in line with COSC requirements (-4/+6 seconds/day).

MECHANICAL DELIGHT

The Swiss brand extends the pleasure of summer’s mild weather with a new collection of steel watches featuring dials in vibrant, gourmand and radiant colors.

It’s no secret that color has a prodigious influence on our emotions. As a source of inspiration, it can be naturally energizing, reassuring, calming… Even more effective than any chemical molecule sold in pharmacies! Oris understands the importance of putting nuances into our lives and on our wrists to bring joy and stand out from the crowd. The Hölstein-based brand invites dynamic hues into its catalog, from the lime dial of the ProPilot X Kermit Edition unveiled last spring to the summery Divers Sixty-Five “Cotton Candy”. Building on the success of the 2022 bronze pieces, they are now available in a steel version, whose soft silvery reflections allow the colored dials to express themselves fully. A real treat!

Divers Sixty-Five is first and foremost an emblematic design that evokes the spirit of a 1960s diver’s watch, hence the name of the collection which recalls the date of the first diver produced by Oris. This Sixties silhouette blends perfectly with the available palette: pool blue, candy pink and Persian green. Protected by a delicately domed sapphire crystal, the dial features applied geometric hour-markers curved by a thin minute track, two central baton-style hour and minute hands, a polka-dot “lollipop” second hand, and a date display in black on a white background in a window at 6 o’clock. The presence of Super-LumiNova® facilitates information gathering in all light conditions. Carrying the “diver” gene inherited from the past, the Divers Sixty-Five “Cotton Candy” has a 38mm-diameter steel case, topped with a graduated bezel in relief, whose solid screw-down caseback and crown help guarantee water-resistance to a depth of 100m. The case houses the Oris 733 automatic caliber, based on a Sellita SW 200-1, which delivers 38 hours of power reserve.

A TIMELESS SMILE

By enlisting the services of the most popular of puppets, the watchmaking company demonstrates that time can be a playful adventure, an opportunity to take care of oneself while spreading smiles all around.

Young or old alike, everyone knows Kermit, the friendly puppet created in 1955 by Jim Henson (1936-1990), either from the Muppet Show TV series broadcast in the 1970s, or from the memes circulating on social networks. It is this famous frog that Oris has chosen as the central theme of one of its must-have collections, but also to convey a kindly message: always take the time to smile and make those around you smile. More than a watch, the ProPilot X Kermit Edition becomes a symbol of daily well-being.

As green is the character’s dominant color, it is repeated on the face of this timepiece presented at Watches and Wonders, but with a hint of luminous yellow for a lemony, vitamin-rich result that energizes the wrist, summer and winter alike. At 6 o’clock, between the long white hour-markers flown over by the duo of luminescent hour and minute hands and the second hand, a window displays the date. On each first day of the month, the Arabic numerals are replaced by the smiling face of Kermit, whose mission is to act as a friendly reminder: it’s time to slow down, take a break and focus on oneself. The personality of the whole, to which both the dial color and this gentle notification contribute, is also based on the technical and aesthetic qualities of the ProPilot X. Indeed, its 39mm-diameter titanium case, punctuated by a delicately fluted bezel, a screw-down crown and a link bracelet fitted with a secure folding clasp, houses Calibre 400, an automatic movement developed by Oris, beating at 4hz and delivering a formidable 120-hour power reserve when fully wound.

WITH A NEW YEAR COMES A NEW ENGINE

The Hölstein watchmaker opens the watchmaking 2023 novelties season by presenting a manual winding movement entirely designed in-house and housed in its most emblematic model.

Oris, the watch brand founded in 1904 and based in Hölstein, a small town in the north of Switzerland, continues its dynamic progression initiated a little over a decade ago. It was also during this period that the brand set up a development program for movements designed entirely in-house, respecting strict specifications (mechanical, innovative, Swissmade, high-performance, affordable), with a first manual caliber introduced in 2014 and then an automatic caliber – the 400 – launched in 2020. To kick off 2023 in style, Oris is opens the watchmaking novelties season with the Big Crown Calibre 473 model, inspired by its emblematic timepiece born in 1904 and now equipped with a brand new engine.

The Caliber 473 is the 10th movement in this 9 year-old movement creation initiative. Based on the 403, powered by manual winding, it delivers an power reserve of 120 hours (5 days), the level of which is indicated on the back and visible through the sapphire back of the 38mm diameter steel case.

Dressed in azure blue, the dial displays the hours and minutes in the center with two baton-type hands pointing to a circle of hours in Arabic numerals and triangular markers, accompanied by a red-finished arrow to follow the date track that runs along the flange. A small second at 6 o’clock completes the time data.

The Big Crown Calibre 473 is worn on a lightly grained cocoa-colored Cervo Volante deer leather strap with a steel butterfly buckle.

A NEW DAY IS DAWNING

A new piece joins the very famous collection of the Hölstein brand, with similar features to the original 1938 model and equipped with a recent automatic movement

The historical dimension is of great importance in watchmaking. Indeed, most of the industry’s key players have solid roots in a past that is often rich in innovation, whether mechanical or aesthetic, and that represents an almost inexhaustible source of ideas. However, few brands have an icon that stands the test of time and embodies a spirit, an attitude, a heritage. Oris, founded in 1904, is one of these companies, notably thanks to the Big Crown, a watch designed in 1938 for aviators. Now a collection, it welcomes a new piece, itself equipped with a brand new engine: Big Crown Pointer Date Calibre 403.

oris big crown pointer date calibre 403 closeupSome aesthetic codes specific to this product family have been replaced to get closer to the original piece, such as the diameter of the case, which has been reduced from 40 to 38mm, and the bezel, which is now polished instead of fluted. On the midnight blue dial, the bâton-shaped hour and minute hands have replaced the skeletonized pear style and the hour numerals have been redesigned. Even the famous central Pointer Date marker has changed its crescent moon shape for a red arrow. A small seconds counter at 6 o’clock, close to the white minute train, completes the time data.

oris big crown pointer date calibre 403 casebackAt the heart of the steel case beats the Oris Calibre 403 automatic, the latest addition to the 400 series that made its debut a year ago with the Hölstein Edition 2021 limited to 250 pieces. As required by this new range of movements, it is anti-magnetic, provides a power reserve of 5 days (120 hours) and has a 10-year warranty.

WHEN TWO SACRED ARTS ENTWINE

When two firms, one working in watchmaking and the other in apparel, where both are renowned for the quality of their products, team up to create a special edition, well the result can only be superb!

For connoisseurs and fashionistas, the name Momotaro Jeans is not unfamiliar as the Japanese brand, founded in 2006 in Kojima Okayama and whose slogan is “Made by hand without compromise”, stands for irreproachable quality and workmanship… two points for which it is intransigent and which it shares with the Swiss watchmaker Oris. The Japanese firm elevates denim to the grade of noble material which it prints with its famous double white diagonal stripe and enhances with yellow saddle-stitching, a visual signature which can also be admired on the strap of the watch created hand-in-hand with Oris, the Oris x Momotaro Divers Sixty-Five Special Edition.

oris divers momotaro closeupThis new timepiece is an addition to the already-well-garnished collection inspired by the design of historic dive watches of the 1960s. Its 40 mm-diameter steel-crafted case protects a unidirectional rotating bezel fashioned in bronze, topped by a black ring with white graduations. Beneath the delicately-cambered sapphire crystal, the dial adorns jade green which subtly darkens as it embraces the minute tracker. The various displays – geometric indexes dominated by the Oris blazon silhouette at 12 o’clock, baton-style hour and minute hands, and dot-enhanced direct-drive – take on golden finery set off with the vanilla-lemon of the “Light Old Radium” Super-LumiNova®, which emphasizes the watch’s vintage look.

The Momotaro Divers Sixty-Five, driven by the Oris 733 caliber which delivers a power reserve of 38 hours, is presented in a denim travel case made by Momotaro Jeans.

BRONZE NUANCES

The watch which has been the watchmaking brand’s signature design, loyal ambassador for several decades now, adorns its case in bronze and invites its russet glints to illuminate the creamy-coffee-colored lacquered dial.

Every watchmaking firm has its ambassador, the one which has been conveying a brand’s aesthetic values and technical prowess for more than one generation and is perfectly capable of renewing, evolving over time, without ever losing its identity. For Oris, the watchmaker based in Hölstein, in the north of Switzerland, this icon is the Big Crown Pointer Date, a timepiece created back in 1938 and designed for aviators’ wrists. After the quartz crisis, the firm which wished to focus on producing mechanical timepieces ennobled this model intended for the skies to embrace it as its flagship piece. Today it adorns bronze, an ancestral alloy consisting of copper, an exquisite, ultra-resistant material, which forms a natural patina over time and becomes an incredibly one-of-a-kind object.

oris big crown bronze pointer date closeupThe Big Crown Bronze Pointer Date case measures 40 mm diameter and, like its elder siblings from the 1930s, hosts a fluted bezel for a sturdy grip and a screwed crown decorated with fluting. This case, waterproof to a depth of 50 meters, is equipped with the Oris 754 caliber, a self-winding movement which delivers a 38-hour power reserve.

oris big crown bronze pointer date detailsOn the dial, which is also in bronze and coated with creamy-coffee-colored lacquer, the hour chapter adorned with large Arabic numerals and markers is covered with white Super-LumiNova® and delicately brushed over by a pair of golden, phosphorescent cathedral-style hands. The date scale running along the flange is pointed out by a red cross-tipped hand.

The watch wraps round the wrist with a distressed-brown-colored chamois leather strap and a clasp made of… bronze, of course!
