DESTINATION CREATION

With this limited edition of just some 12 pieces, the manufacture plays on its own codes. Here, métiers d’art and virtuoso craftspeople deliver us from fall-time gloom.

24 Faubourg Saint Honoré, much more than just an address in Paris, is an invitation to throw open the door into a fascinating imaginary realm where unbridled creativity exalted by exclusive know-how reigns. To celebrate this iconic building overflowing with tales and passions, Dimitri Rybaltchenko imagined an original design which, in the past, was used on one of the brand’s silk scarves. Now, as 2024 comes to a close, the Slim d’Hermès Flagship tailors this dreamlike creation to its own size.

Its aventurine dial dazzles with a delicate miniature painting and engraving set off with flamboyant colors. The Parisian house’s flagship, all sails unfurled, cruises through a starry sky whilst the can’t-do-without duo of hands whirls around this scenescape. A free-spinning shooting star, adding a dash of fantasy, sits at 4 o’clock. Need we remind you, at Hermès, time is never boring. Each piece in this series features a 39.5 mm-diameter yellow gold case, which reiterates the streamlined, timeless style of the one designed back in 2015 by Philippe Delhotal, Creative Director at Hermès Horloger. This elegant piece is complemented by an abyss blue alligator strap, harmoniously matching the scenography tones. It protects the slimline H1950 caliber beating at 21,600 vibrations an hour. This Swiss-made selfwinding movement delivers a power reserve of 48 hours to the Slim d’Hermès Flagship. In a nutshell, you can be playful and still be ever-so rigorous!

POP ART

The manufacture unveils an astounding three-piece limited edition bringing together the elegant design imagined by Philippe Delhotal in 2015 and an incredibly-exacting enameling technique.

Effervescent creativity enjoys the fertile expressive playground of the Parisian firm’s silk scarves. Dutch illustrator Viktor Hachmang’s futuristic world was honored during the Grand Prix du Carré Hermès international scarf design competition.

His graphic fusion inspired by elegant Japanese art and comic-book pop culture has brought a mysterious rider to life astride a flamboyant motorbike set off with geometric patterns enhanced by vibrant colors. The backdrop depicts a storefront conjuring up Hermès legendary and historic flagship boutique in Paris on 24 Faubourg Saint-Honoré. This composition is center staged this year on the champlevé enamel cover of the Slim d’Hermès Pocket Mysterious Rider. And, as Hermès reminds us, “this demanding métier d’art involves carving small cells into the metal, filling them with colored glass powders mixed with natural oils and firing them several times in a kiln at over 800ºC to fix the pigments”.

This pocket watch boasting a 45 mm-diameter case crafted in white gold embraces an ever-so pure enamel dial. Cut-outs highlight stylish numerals and the logo created using exquisite typography. Their vermilion hues go wonderfully well with this watch’s overall tone.

On top, the pair of hour and minute hands is driven by a selfwinding movement. The ultra-slim H1950 caliber delivers a power reserve of some 42 hours. And, to ensure visual harmony, the Slim d’Hermès Pocket Mysterious Rider is complemented by a matte red alligator strand.

ALL-ROUND EVENTING

The ever-so demanding world of equitation embraces a natural creative extension embodied by the Parisian saddler, as illustrated through these two precious and elegant newcomers.

To try and harness time that’s galloping by, Hermès infuses the watches in its collection with a dash of fantasy. Its latest-to-date Arceau Grand Tralala brides et mors models showcase this desire for lightness. Inside a 34 mm-diameter rose gold case, encircled with a bezel set with 64 diamonds, a one-of-a-kind, elaborate time-display scenography invites our imagination to break free from convention, through details inspired by the equestrian world. 110 diamonds add dazzle to a graphical portrayal of a bridle and the circle fringing the small seconds on a glittering white or galvanic black dial. This feature’s hand is shaped like a loop, a twin for the bit hooked at 1 o’clock.

This composition takes its cue from the Grand Tralala silk scarf designed by French artist Virginie Jamin, which in turn was inspired by the mounts of Royal Hungarian Bodyguards who protected Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria back in the 19th century. Here, the ensemble is center staged through the signature case created by Henry d’Origny in 1978, complemented by an alligator strap in a shade that matches the dial. The delicate hour and minute hands adjusted via a stone-set crown are driven by the in-house H1912 caliber. This selfwinding movement delivers a power reserve of 50 hours to this reference which straddles everyday life stylishly and gracefully.

MUSICAL CAVALCADE

The Parisian maison takes a new ride into high horology territory by combining two complex mechanisms in one watch – a three-axes tourbillon and a minute repeater – offered in rose gold or platinum.

Each timepiece imagined by Hermès carries with it aesthetic references, generally linked to its past, perfectly in tune with the playful spirit with which the Parisian company approaches the question of time. These faithful, mischievous notes, placed here and there, turn up onto the Arceau Duc Attelé watch, the model presented at the Geneva Watches and Wonders trade show and limited to 24 pieces with a 43mm-diameter case in rose gold and 24 in titanium. This timepiece showcases the brand’s technical expertise, while retaining its signature stylistic touch.

It combines two complex mechanisms: a three-axes central tourbillon, with three different rotation speeds (300, 60 and 25 seconds), fitted with a titanium triple cage featuring the double H, symbol of the marriage between Emile Hermès (1878-1951) and Julie Hollande in 1900 (1878-1961), and a minute repeater with tuning fork, i.e. two elongated U-shaped arms that run along the flange and are struck by two hammers with a horse profile at 6 o’clock, diffusing a particular musicality thanks to the sapphire crystal bridge. This duo of devices is integrated into the H1926 caliber, a high-frequency (5hz) hand-wound mechanical movement with carriage-like gears that delivers a 48-hour power reserve. This stored energy is indicated at the bottom of the dial, which is decorated with navy aventurine glass or a graphic guilloché pattern evoking sound waves and tinted  anthracite. Two peripheral blued hands run around a wide ring on which Arabic numerals in the typography typical of the Arceau collection display the hours and minutes.

RUNAWAY IMAGINATION

The allegorical figures recall the inescapable nature of the passing of time and fleeting existence. These symbolic editions are a whimsical reminder of this.

The Chorus Stellarum silk scarf motif designed by Daiske Nomura for Hermès literally comes to life in two limited editions of Arceau Chorus Stellarum , each produced in a series of six. The Japanese artist’s imaginary world of robots and dragons transforms the themes held dear by the Parisian house and transports them into a futuristic universe. Thus, depending on the version, the dials feature the skeleton of a horseman or a horsewoman riding sidesaddle on their noble steeds. The figures, chiseled in 2N yellow gold and hand-painted, come to life by pressing the discreet pusher housed in the body at 9 o’clock. These fanciful representations of Gothic vanities defy time in a decoration of constellations finalized using the delicate technique of champlevé enamel enhanced with lacquer. These colorful depictions are set on the emblematic case designed by Henri d’Origny in 1978 in 750 white gold and 41mm in diameter.

The “on-demand impulse” animation is powered by the H1837 movement. Although requiring a certain amount of energy, the hour and minute hands have a 50-hour power reserve provided by the self-winding movement. To create perfect harmony, the Arceau Chorus Stellarum watch has a matte abyss blue alligator strap. The feminine variation in soft colors with a bezel set with 70 diamonds has a pearl gray strap. The stunning ride remains elegant in every situation.

BAROQUE FANTASY

Isn’t it about time we reconnected with nature? Well here, every creation, pretty much like one of Arcimboldo’s paintings, links a cycle to a chimerical animal and reminds us that life is a celebration.

The dreamlike Slim d’Hermès Le Sacre des Saisons quartet, a hymn to the incredible wealth and diversity of nature, conjures up the different periods that rhythm our year. Hermès has chosen the watch designed by Philippe Delhotal in 2015 to represent these four variations, issued in just 12 pieces each. The slender 39.5 mm-diameter case becomes a precious casket for extraordinary scenographies fashioned by the expert hands of métiers d’art craftspeople. Spring is portrayed through a rose gold case set with 66 diamonds and a dial featuring a horse adorned with glorious flowers. This scenescape comes to life through a myriad of layers of miniature painting applied on a lemon chrysoprase stone.

The three other versions dazzle with white gold. A beaming lion symbolizes summer. The mischievous feline, engraved in sapphire crystal and painted from the back of the dial, capitalizes on the light emitted by the 66 diamonds. For the fall season, sculpted gold and delicate painting center stage a flamboyant eagle. An ice wolf, imagined in paillonné enameling, encircled by 52 baguette-cut diamonds, depicts winter. Each piece is complemented by a matte or smooth alligator strap in a dial-matching color, fashioned in the Parisian firm’s workshops. These watches’ hour and minute hands are driven by the H1950 caliber which beats at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations an hour. This extra-slim, 2.6 mm-high, selfwinding movement delivers a power reserve of 48 hours. Perfect for enjoying the benefits of every season to the full.

A CIRCLE WITH ANGLES

Specializing in geometry, La Montre Hermès breaks with rigor to remain true to its playful spirit, redesigning the circle shape according to its own aesthetic vocabulary, thus tracing the contours of a new collection of timepieces.

Reinventing the round watch in a watchmaking world that is essentially populated by… round watches: this is the challenge that Hermès has set itself with its Cut collection. Cut, like the cut of a diamond when the rough stone passes through the hands of a lapidary. Cut, like the curvaceous silhouette of a circle that didn’t wish to be totally circular, but rather wanted to curl up in an angular mantle. Cut, which joins the Cape Cod, H08, Slim, Galop and Arceau families, to name but a few, in the highly personal reinterpretation of geometry undertaken by the Parisian house since the 1970s. Hermès breaks with the rigor of this mathematical science to infuse it with its mischievous spirit, its playful vision of time.

Measuring 36mm in diameter and water-resistant to a depth of 100m, the steel case, sometimes topped by a bevelled bezel set with diamonds, or in pink gold with or without diamonds, has a shape that oscillates between round and cushiony, with its clean yet softened lines and side cuts on the case middle. The crown at 1:30 combines style and ergonomics, for the Cut is designed to take on any terrain, whether for professional or leisure activities. Its dial is dressed in a slightly silvery hue, and features luminescent hour markers overlaid with two baton-type hands and a second hand finished with an orange dot for the steel versions. This Hermès novelty beats to the rhythm of a manufacture movement, the automatic caliber H1912, which provides an energy reserve of around 50 hours, and is worn on a choice of a metal link bracelet or two strands of colored rubber with curved relief.

A MATTER OF GAIT

The Parisian house’s equestrian world whisks us off with its imagination that’s unbridled to say the least yet forever elegant with this piece that exalts métiers d’art.

The highly-original design of the Arceau case created by Henri d’Origny in 1978 center stages a specific idea of time that’s inventive, playful and fascinating. The Arceau Mon Premier Galop watch shows, yet again, this ability to convey admiration. For this reference, Hermès drew its inspiration from a pattern of a silk scarf created by Tong Ren, a master in the art of drawing fanciful animals. “The Chinese-born artist, fascinated by traditional wickerwork, combines simple styles, blocks of color and fine trimming patterns” states the watch brand. As such, a composition created with some thirty pieces comes to life on the dial. A tottering horse, accompanied by a fluttering butterfly, reigns in this colorful, contrasting scenescape fashioned with marquetry using strands of leather just 0.5 mm thick and silk thread. The enameled sun and sky hues emphasize the delicacy of the work created through the exclusive artistry of métiers d’art master craftspeople.

The 24 pieces of this limited edition are driven by the H192 caliber. This automatic movement delivers a power reserve of 50 hours once fully wound. This mechanism and the meticulous composition nestle in a 38 mm-diameter white gold case fringed by a bezel set with 82 diamonds. A Zephyr blue Swift calfskin strap, on a par with the shades used for the décor and masterfully crafted by the Manufacture, embraces the lugs.

WHEN LIFE’S A WHIRLWIND

Once again, the Parisian house whisks us off on a journey, this time round to Mexico, and invites us to discover magnificent creations that set our senses in motion.

Highly-colorful, hand-embroidered folk-style dresses twirl to the rhythm of traditional instrumental music played by mariachis on guitar. Movements flow seamlessly, brilliantly during the well-known Mexican hat dance, aka the Jarabe Tapatio. In 2017, Hermès froze this sumptuous choreography on a delicate silk scarf. Today, it literally comes to life in two limited, numbered Arceau Belles du Mexique series, each rolled out in just 12 pieces. On an orange or raspberry dial, based on the version chosen, applique-style miniature paintings create striking scenography. A bird’s eye view that zooms onto a ballet in motion, because among the dancers depicted, seven of them, poised on a free axis, start to rotate as soon as the wrist moves. They twirl and whirl around themselves on a central disc set with a ring of 23 diamonds. What’s more 82 of these precious stones also dazzle on the bezel.

This colorful composition reigns in a 38 mm-diameter white gold case that hosts the H1912 caliber. This selfwinding movement delivers a power reserve of 50 hours to the waltzing hour and minute hands whenever the timepiece isn’t being worn. And, to ensure the look is perfectly esthetic, each of the Arceau Belles du Mexique watches is complemented by an alligator strap in a matching color. Hermès is without any doubt the choreographer of time.

CONFETTI THROWING

While the Christmas trees are adorned with tinsel, ready to welcome Santa Claus who will come to lay presents at their feet, the Parisian saddler-watchmaker celebrates the end of the year under the sign of Polish folklore by producing two artistic pieces rich in color.

When the Arceau watch was born in 1978 under the stroke of his pencil, energized by his creative spirit, Henri d’Origny may have been unaware that he had just imagined both a watchmaking icon and a blank canvas ready to host all the mechanical and artistic fantasies of Hermès. 45 years later, his work has become the ambassador of a unique style, as demonstrated by the Arceau Costume de Fête duo unveiled at the end of this year, just in time to celebrate the transition to the next. Inspired by a silk square of the same name created towards the end of 2019 by Jan Bajtlik, a young Warsaw-born artist who has been collaborating with the Parisian Maison for around seven years, this pair reveals, in miniature format, the beauty of Polish traditions, typical Krakow costumes and the local art of paper-cutting.

The original fabric designed by Jan Bajtlik represents a corset richly decorated with meticulous multicolored details. Under the left shoulder of this sleeveless garment rises a horse, a scene chosen to be transposed onto the dials of these two models. With great dexterity, Hermès craftsmen affixed two parts to the base of a metal disc: a half-moon decoration representing a pearl motif, made from a succession of layers of micro-paint to add volume, and a fine leather marquetry to give life to the frame. On the harness and finery of the emblematic Hermès animal, front paws proudly erect, small sequins have been sewn with copper thread. At the heart of this thousand-tone tableau, two slender silvery or golden hands mark the hours and minutes in time with the automatic H1912 caliber. This Manufacture movement beats at the standard 4hz frequency and provides a 50-hour power reserve when fully wound. It is housed in a white or pink gold case, topped by a bezel lined with a ribbon of 82 diamonds, which is attached to the wrist by a strap in pink Sakura or electric blue Swift calfskin.

FREE AND EXQUISITE

This duo boasting timeless touches invites up-to-the-minute women questing casualness to match their wrist jewelry with their personality. In impeccable style!

Back in 1938, when Robert Dumas, son-in-law of the grandson of founder Thierry Hermès, drew his inspiration from the nautical world of the Normandy Coast in France to create a silver jewelry piece, could he ever have imagined that, decades later, his creation would breathe life into another that was just as evocative? Well, since 1991, the one-of-a-kind square inside the rectangular case (23 x 23 mm), fashioned by Henri d’Origny, has pursued its essence. This design has embraced a myriad of variations of dials, which have center staged Hermès’ signature symbols, amongst others. After the recently-released mesmerizing Crépuscule model, the new, latest unveiled Cape Cod Chaîne d’ancre watches perpetuate this wish to share the Parisian House’s original atmosphere. With delicate translucent Parma or blue lacquer, the scenography desired reiterates one of the emblematic motifs, inspired by two anchor chain half links. The intertwined links harmoniously echo the horizontal lines, creating an attractive graphic composition. The slender hour and minute hand duo on top is driven by a Swiss quartz caliber.

One of the models stands out with its 46 diamonds that cover the steel-crafted case. The presence of these precious stones livens up the azure hue of the dial, as well as the “storm blue” of the alligator strap. The other feminine piece is worn on an exquisite “glycine athena” matching calfskin strand. Whichever you choose, gracefulness takes pride of place with these novel Cape Cod Chaîne d’ancre pieces.

GALAXY DREAMS

The moon’s phases are unveiled on a sparkling dial. Charm and grace reign supreme in this ever-so delicate scenography imagined by the Parisian house.

Our Earth’s satellite beguiles us with its power of attraction more than ever. For centuries on end, astronomers have been pointing their instruments towards its shining, crater-strewn face. Watchmakers have also been bewitched by its immutable cycles. At Hermès, it even lends its name to a range in the Arceau watch collection, created back in 1978 through Henri d’Origny’s inspirational design. This year, with its Arceau Petite Lune, the manufacture invites us on a novel, elegant journey to greet the Moon. An exquisite dial, crafted in incredibly-fine aventurine that infuses it with translucence and unveils the iridescent glimmers of Polynesian mother-of-pearl, is embraced by a 38 mm-diameter white gold case set with 70 diamonds. In this scenescape scattered with a handful of diamonds, three planets fashioned in aragonite, opal and water pearl surround the hour- and minute-hand duo. What’s more, the lunar cycles are center staged as the days roll by in an aperture set at 10:30.

This delicate ensemble is driven by a H1837 caliber. This selfwinding movement, assembled using some 193 components, stands out with its one-of-a-kind finishes. Its baseplate is circular-grained and snailed, its bridges and oscillating weight are satin-brushed and adorned with an H. This mechanism also delivers a 42-hour power reserve. The Arceau Petite Lune is worn on a smooth sapphire-blue alligator strap attached to Hermès’ iconic stirrup-shaped lugs. When a journey is precious. Forever.

THE SHADOW OF A RIDE

In order to bring the spirit of a drawing made for a silk carré onto the face of a watch, the Parisian maison has called upon the creative know-how of the métiers d’art and thus presents a duo of limited editions.

Five years before the Slim d’Hermès watch was born in 2015, artist Benoît Pierre Emery imagined the Parisian maison’s emblem in “a celestial ride done in gold stippling on silk” affixed to a carré. More than a decade later, this drawing of the animal’s almost mysterious silhouette is used to decorate the dial of a watch, the Slim d’Hermès Cheval de légende, offered in two versions, each limited to 24 pieces. For this unique creation, Hermès called upon a rare expertise which, like any other art, requires meticulous skill.

Because it has a face that is wide open to the world, defined by a thin bezel here lined with 52 baguette-cut diamonds, the Slim d’Hermès lends itself magnificently to the talent of the craftsman who, on a white enameled disc, has carved tiny alveoli to nestle beads in rose gold or bluish enamel. The dial is then fired so that the high temperatures amalgamate and fix these small marbles, thus materializing the contours of the galloping horse designed by Benoît Pierre Emery. At the center of this delicate picture, two long, slender hands, typical of the collection, mark the hours and minutes. The time information is provided by the H1950 caliber, an extra-thin automatic manufacture movement with a micro-rotor winding system that guarantees a 48-hour power reserve, housed in a white gold case measuring 39.5mm in diameter. This pair of watches by Hermès is worn on a matte alligator leather strap, chantilly colored for the variant with gold beads or sapphire blue for the model with enamel beads, closed with a pin buckle.

MATERIAL AND COLOR

The sporty-chic model in the Parisian house’s latest collection is forever judiciously changing. A one-of-a-kind material and scenography infuse it with a summery personality.

The stylistic variations unveiled during the Watches & Wonders Geneva show pursue the distinct lines of the H08 watch presented by Hermès in 2021, imagined through the inspirational design of Philippe Delhotal, Creation and Style Director of Hermès Horloger, yet give the range a big boost of energy. The pared-down, geometric composition is now set off by discreet, though effective, dashes of color. The direct-drive and indexes adorn a choice of solar yellow, summertime blue, forest green or even vitamin-charged orange. The hue that enhances the textured black dial is reiterated on the rubber strap. And, the ensemble literally jazzes up the timepiece’s style.

The manufacture also proposes a new case with these variations. This protective element, still cushion- and square-shaped, is now crafted in a novel aluminized fiberglass-based fabric and graphene powder. This incomparable alloy endows the 39 mm case with a pretty unusual pattern flaunting a host of shades of gray. The texture of the black ceramic bezel adds an extra something to the rather unique, elegant look of the watch. The time data is still accurately driven by the in-house H1837 caliber, finalized by Vaucher. This selfwinding movement delivers a power reserve of some 45 hours to this reference. The sapphire-crystal caseback invites to admire the mechanism’s finishes and, in particular, the oscillating weight. With these H08 newcomers, Hermès adds an eye-catching extension to its offbeat vision of staging time.
