The brand pursues its adventure as it celebrates its 120th anniversary with the launch of a new collection of versatile timepieces boasting really alluring features.

The first two Securicode Diver300 watches, vintage-looking, up-to-the-minute reinterpretations infused with the stylistics of the first timepiece produced in 1958, stand out as affordable items for entering ZRC‘s marine-themed world. Both have been imagined around a 316L steel case, waterproof to depths of 300 meters thanks in particular to the programmed deformation caseback. Their solid guilloché-engraved brass dial takes on black and navy blue hues. Time data can be read in a flash under any conditions of light in this ocean-colored backdrop. The Magnum-type hands and “lollipop” direct-drive, all covered with beige or green Super-LumiNova^® depending on the version chosen, hover over an hour chapter comprising stylized teardrop-and-dot markers fringed by a flange adorned with a minute scale.

All the data is driven by a Sellita SW-200-1 caliber, in its elaborate version. This selfwinding movement delivers a power reserve of at least 38 hours. Reference SC39163 is characterized by its unidirectional rotating bezel crafted in the same metal as its case and with its bracelet fashioned with extensible steel links that gift it with a resolutely retro-chic personality. The SC39208 is set apart with a date placed at 3 o’clock, its bezel boasting a black ceramic insert and its rubber strap. With these novel Divers Date pieces, Oris rolls out much more than just a simple stylistic upgrade of its model first released some 60 years ago. Back in 2015, the Divers Sixty-Five, boasting nostalgia-filled personality and driven by an up-to-the-minute caliber, already enthralled us. Following on from its highly-colorful version, the brand rolls out an upgrade of its dive watch whose design is inspired by a timepiece from its rich heritage equipped with a decompression table.

With its Ocean Star Decompression Timer, unveiled for the first time back in 2020, MIDO immerses itself in its past by reinterpreting one of its iconic 1960s models. This 1961-piece limited series pursues its route with all the qualities of its elder sibling, in particular its decompression table hosted around the center of its matte black dial. Four yellow-, green-, pink- and blue-hued rings make up this tool which lets the wearer know maximum immersion time for various depths – 25 m, 30 m, 35 m and 40 m, without the need for a decompression stop. You just need to read the division of the related minutes. Its position on the azure blue circle means the diver can only stay down at between -36 and -40 meters for 9 minutes, for example, on the way back up.

The watch nestles inside a 40.5 mm-diameter, PVD-treated steel case, waterproof to depths of 200 meters. A unidirectional rotating bezel with notched aluminum ring enhances safety even more when heading down for an adventure on the seabed. Data is still wonderfully-easy to read thanks to the widespread use of Super-LumiNova^® on the scale numerals. The end of the year is fast approaching, and is the perfect excuse to open wide the doors of the world, to fly away to the gentle warmth of the southern hemisphere or, on the contrary, to seek the coolness of the northern lands, with a Pilot x Porter from Zenith on your wrist. The Le Locle watchmaker recently unveiled two watches designed in collaboration with the Japanese travel accessories specialist: the Pilot Central Automatic Porter and the Pilot Big Date Flyback Porter, each limited to 500 pieces.

Heir to Zenith‘s long relationship with aviation, the Pilot, which was modernized in 2023, borrows the emblematic colors of the Japanese brand’s color chart by dressing its cases – 40mm for the automatic version, 42.5mm for the chronograph – in olive-green ceramic. The same hue covers the dials, which feature horizontal lines and a flock of large luminescent Arabic numerals. A few touches of orange adorn the central hour, minute and seconds hands and, for the Big Date Flyback, the small seconds counter (at 9 o’clock) and totalizer (at 3 o’clock). At 6 o’clock, the date appears in white in a single or double window, depending on the reference. These two new models beat to the rhythm of high-frequency (5hz) automatic El Primero movements, caliber 3620 for the three-hand and 3652 for the chronograph, and both deliver 60 hours of autonomy when fully wound. They can be worn either on two strands of Cordura-effect rubber and a PVD-blackened steel folding clasp, or on a nylon fabric strap closed by a Velcro® band.

The collection unveiled in 2023 welcomes two new timepieces equipped with the flyback chronograph function developed by the watchmaker from Saint-Imier almost a century ago and enhanced with touches of gold.

Throughout history, man has imagined wings to navigate among birds and stars. Made of feathers, canvas or metal, he gradually refined his wings until the beginning of the 20^th century, when his prolific creativity was transformed into reliable aircraft prototypes. The boom was sudden, and in 1925, to accompany the explorers of the skies, Longines developed a function associated with that of the chronograph, making it possible to measure a succession of short beats, stop a count and restart a new one with a single push: flyback, for which it filed a patent a decade later. In 2023, this mechanism was integrated into one of the Saint-Imier-based brand’s collections to become a range in its own right, Spirit Flyback, which this year welcomes two new timepieces.

Measuring 42mm in diameter and 17mm thick, the steel case common to these variants is punctuated with elements – rotating bezel, screw-down crown and control pushers – in gold, yellow to sublimate the green dial and rose to enhance the brown. The smoky hues of these faces highlight the azure finish of their counters, the small seconds at 9 o’clock and the minute totalizer powered by the central second hand. As the Spirit Flyback is a pilot’s watch, the oversized Arabic numerals are coated with Super-LumiNova®, as are the hour and minute hands. All these functions are provided by the L791.4 column-wheel caliber, a COSC-certified automatic movement that delivers 68 hours of autonomy when fully wound.

ʻO Ka Mua, the first. This is what Hublot has called its series specifically-developed for its Honolulu Ala Moana store in Hawaiʻi, inaugurated in 2021. This Big Bang Unico flaunts adornments that are typical of Polynesia. Concentric patterns conjure up a myriad of powerful symbols that are found in the ancestral culture of the Pacific islands: sun, ocean waves, tortoise, shark teeth. This elaborate creation covers the openworked dial as well as the blue ceramic bezel. The same material, which is impossible to scrape or scratch unless you take a diamond to it, is used to craft the 42 mm-diameter, 14.5 mm-high microblasted black case, waterproof to depths of 100 meters.

Time data, driven by the HUB1280 caliber, reigns inside this ever-so elaborate scenescape. The hour and minute hands, along with the date, enjoy the energy (72 hours of power reserve) produced by this selfwinding movement, assembled using some 354 components. To celebrate the 50^th anniversary of the 1^st F1 World Championship win, McLaren unveiled its W1 boasting a V8 with 1,275hp. In addition to this supercar’s outstanding power, it reaches 200 km/h from standstill in just 5.8 seconds, its aerodynamics rub shoulders with the incredible thanks to an elaborate Active Long Tail rear wing which heightens the downforce at high speed. Its pumped-up, athletic style diffuses its specificities through the design of the RM 65-01 Automatic Winding Split-Seconds Chronograph McLaren W1, the 4^th opus of Richard Mille‘s partnership with the British firm.

In a nutshell, the Carbon TPT^® bezel is now set on a counterpart crafted in grade 5 titanium that’s just five tenths of a millimeter thick at its slimmest point. This structure emphasizes the watch’s depth and center stages the skeletonized titanium dial, which boasts a pattern inspired by the one used on the wheel rims of the vitamin-boosted racing car. Other graphical features from the wheels played a role in the look of the pushers. The revamped lines of the crown are borrowed from the shape of drive-shaft screws.

To celebrate the 80th anniversary of its collection devoted to underwater adventure, the brand rolls out an upgrade of its dive watch in a brand new size.

As summertime comes around in the northern hemisphere, time surfs wonderfully-textured waves on the dial of MIDO‘s Ocean Star 39. On gradient hues ranging from abyssal black to a blue that’s inevitably navy, a two-toned swell hosts the hour chapter made up of circular and triangular markers adorned with Grade X1 white Super-LumiNova^®. This powerful luminescent substance, which also enhances the hour and minute hands as well as the disc poised on the direct-drive, delivers excellent readability to the time-data scenography under any conditions, be it in the sea or on dry land. Data displays are completed by a practical date aperture featured at 3 o’clock.

Caliber 72, designed on an ETA A31.111 base offers a generous power reserve of 72 hours. Its Nivachron^TM balance spring makes this selfwinding movement, which beats at 25,200 vibrations an hour, insensitive to the negative effects of magnetic fields. Everything nestles in a 39 mm-diameter stainless steel case, waterproof to depths of 200 meters. A far cry from collection names, which generally draw their origins from the history of a watch brand, the surrounding geography or even the vocabulary of romance, Breguet’s Type XX has a kind of mystical aura, like a cryptic message, an enigmatic charisma accentuated by its dark face.

However, like all military equipment, this tool intended for pilots and aircrew bears an administrative designation imposed by the French Air Force, which, in 1953, issued a call for tenders to watch manufacturers according to very precise specifications. The instrument had to be sturdy enough to withstand the extremes of temperature, humidity, altitude and speed, measure at least 38mm in diameter, feature a dark dial with oversized luminescent Arabic numerals for instant information, even at night, and incorporate a chronograph with flyback function, easy to operate with thick gloves. The following year, in 1954, Breguet’s mastery of the flyback function led to the company being chosen by the French Air Force, the Armée de l’Air and then the Aéronautique Navale, to manufacture these watches, the Type 20 for the former and the Type XX for the latter, a spelling difference devised to differentiate the models specially developed to meet the technical needs of each military entity.

Paris is a cornerstone of Breguet’s rich past, since the city has witnessed a young man from Neuchâtel, Abraham-Louis Breguet (1747-1823), learned the art of watchmaking from the great masters, set up his workshop and gave life to the greatest inventions, both technical and aesthetic, in the science of time, at the end of the 18^th century. A few decades later, a young cloud-loving Louis Breguet (1880-1955), a great-great-grandson of the first, also took to the skies of the French capital to launch his airplanes, which also enabled the industry to make great strides in its infancy.

Several generations apart, but the same family name and the same city: Breguet and Paris. One on terra firma, Breguet and watchmaking, to invite men and women to find their bearings in time, the other high in the air, Breguet and aviation, to invite men and women to navigate easily between continents. Thanks to the French Air Force’s call for tenders in 1953, which was won in 1954, the two branches of the family tree came together, encapsulated in a single object: the Type XX chronograph, an indispensable flying instrument for soldiers of the skies, produced in 1,100 pieces for the Air Force between 1955 and 1959, then 500 for the Naval Aviation, and equipped with the flyback function that resets the count to zero and instantly triggers a new measurement of short times.

Between the 1950s, when Breguet designed a chronograph at the request of the French Air Force to complement the military equipment of airmen and mechanics aboard aircraft, and to enable them to wear a reliable, robust instrument on their wrists that was as easy to read as it was to handle, and today, four generations of Type XX have succeeded one another in the watch brand’s catalog.

Approved in 1954, after winning an invitation to tender by meeting a demanding set of specifications, this tried-and-tested tool became a collection in 1995, a space in which it evolved, proliferated under the guise of various variants, underwent a few transformations in line with the tastes and desires of the times, until the arrival of two new ambassadors in June 2023. Each model in this pairing has the same name, but spelled differently to respect both their origins and specificities, as well as their aesthetics, some of which have been borrowed from previous versions. The Type 20 reference 2057, formerly developed for the French Air Force, inherits the “military” moniker and a graphic design based on two counters, a small seconds hand at 9 o’clock and an oversized totalizer at 3 o’clock, and a period look with its fluted bezel and conical crown complementing the 42mm-diameter steel case, while the Type XX reference 2067, based on the design commissioned by the Aéronautique Navale in the late 1950s, adopts the “civilian” designation and stands out for its notched bezel, trio of counters and Alpha-type hands.

A little over a year after the presentation of the fourth-generation Type XX in Paris, Breguet unveils a new version of the Type XX reference 2067, still marked by a dynamic allure but whose sporty silhouette adopts the warm reflections of rose gold, a metal introduced on two watches issued in very small series in 1955, and the face is dressed in a beautiful deep blue, two hues that evoke the sky at nightfall when the sun gently gives way to the moon.

Punctuated on the right-hand side by chronograph push-pieces and a fluted crown, the case of this “civilian” variant measures 42mm in diameter and 14.1mm thick, and is topped with a notched bezel featuring a blue ceramic ring. For Breguet, the use of this material, highly appreciated for its high resistance to scratches and corrosion, as well as its lightness, is a first. What’s more, its brilliance contributes to the contrast created by the finishes on the dial, sunburst for the main disc and azure for the trio of counters (the small seconds and hour totalizers at 9 and 6 o’clock respectively, and the oversized 15-minute totalizer overhanging the date between 2 and 4 o’clock). The hands have undergone a change compared to the Type XX of 2023, as the Alpha shape gives way to a baton style with a very elongated tip. The indications delivered by this elegant model beat to the rhythm of caliber 728, an automatic manufacture movement featuring a flyback chronograph function, a vertical clutch mechanism, and a high-efficiency barrel that provides 60 hours of power reserve.

The launch of the Type XX and Type 20 chronograph pairing, the 4^th generation of a watch developed in 1954 for the French Air Force, which took place in Paris in June 2023, was accompanied by the introduction of a powerful high-frequency (5hz, or 36,000 vibrations per hour) automatic flyback chronograph movement developed exclusively by Breguet for this collection of timepieces.

After some 4 years of development, the Type XX calibre 728 reference 2067 sets the course for a new mechanical era. Featuring a silicon balance-spring, lugs and escape-wheel assembly, this sturdy and reliable heart, assembled using 350 components, carries a vertical clutch mechanism coupled to a black-tinted column wheel and an efficient barrel that delivers a 60-hour power reserve. On the dial side, it drives the current hours and minutes, the small seconds at 9 o’clock, the date at 4:30 and, of course, the information relating to the measurement of short times, i.e. the central second hand that powers the oversized 15-minute totalizer between 2 and 4 o’clock and the hour totalizer at 6 o’clock. A variant of this new engine, the caliber 7281 fitted to the Type 20 reference 2057, the “military” version, is also equipped with a monoplane-shaped oscillating weight, giving rhythm to the ballet of hours and minutes, off-center seconds at 6 o’clock, the date, and a minute counter, this time set to 30, swept by a small leaf-style hand at 3 o’clock.
