This year, the watchmakers’ skills were once again called upon to create the Square Bang Unico Sapphire, produced in a 250-piece limited-edition. The specific shape and structure of the case presented a delicate challenge. Yet, the challenge was met with flying colors. The architectural lines of the square case made of polished synthetic sapphire transform each piece into a contemporary work of art.

Different and yet so similar, the Square Bang Unico White Ceramic and Square Bang Unico Black Magic models emphasize another of Hublot’s technical achievements. Highly complicated to machine, monochrome ceramics require unfailing dexterity and considerable expertise. White of utmost purity and black of intense depth enhance the Square Bang’s sporty chic beauty. All of these watches are equipped with a matching rubber wristband fastened with a folding clasp. To take advantage of their functionalities, they are all powered by the self-winding MHUB1280 UNICO 2 caliber. Since 2005, as a designer, visual artist, painter, and even video artist, Daniel Arsham has shattered all conventional codes with his creations imbued with timeless symbolism. The American artist reveals his multiple talents in the form of disruptive uchronies. His molds transform contemporary objects into fossil-like petrified figures embellished with drapery reminiscent of antiquity. As an archaeologist of the imagination, he explores ages frozen in time, those of yesterday, today, and tomorrow. He questions the various eras, examining our relationship to time, most notably via his series Connecting Time, represented by sculptural hourglasses. At its center, erected in the manner of an obelisk, a pristine sculpture, composed of snow, casts its shadow on a large circle of 20 meters in diameter. The manufacturer resorted to a rarely used composite, Texalium^®. This high-tech fabric made from a fiberglass base covered with a thin layer of 99.99% pure aluminum, imparts a decidedly design personality to the timepiece. True to its original DNA, the manufacturer has always mixed material with great talent. The eight new chronographs joining this exclusive line further enhance this distinctive personality. What makes them special? Each model is embellished by the excellence of the gem-setting work carried out by the craftsmen in a masterly manner. The Square Bang Unico Titanium Diamonds bears 44 brilliant-cut diamonds on its 1.87-carat bezel. The Square Bang Unico Titanium Jewellery features a case with 94 diamonds and a bezel set with 50 baguette-cut gemstones of 4.4 carats. The Square Bang Unico Titanium Pavé glitters with 138 diamonds of 3.31 carats. The Square Bang Unico High Jewellery features 285 diamonds of 17.9 carats that literally make the watch shine. As the leader of the Superflat movement, of which he is the originator, Takashi Murakami mixes genres, stepping off the beaten path of creative design. His unique, unclassifiable style draws its inspiration from manga and kawaii culture. The imaginary creatures populating his work establish ties between the traditional techniques of his country and a daring avant-garde aesthetic. The collaboration between the Japanese artist and Hublot unfolds harmoniously. Both the artist and the manufacturer enjoy challenging conventional assumptions. Through this partnership, Hublot merges fine watchmaking with digital art. During Watches & Wonders 2023, thirteen exclusive watches and as many NFTs are being unveiled. Twelve of these can be purchased online via a dedicated web platform. Participation is only open to holders of the 324 NFTs issued in 2022 for the third edition of the collaboration between the manufacturer and the Japanese designer.

The 13^th timepiece in this incredible 2.0 collection is a Classic Fusion Takashi Murakami Black Ceramic Rainbow. This watch brings a new interpretation to the iconic smiling flower. On the dial, twelve petals are in full bloom, composing a subtle gradation of rubies, sapphires, amethysts, tsavorites, and topaz. A clever ball bearing system allows the petals to rotate around an axis. The resulting action transforms the watch and its 45mm diameter ceramic case into a kinetic sculpture. The center of the smiling flower is positioned above the crystal creating an attractive three-dimensional effect. This watch can only be acquired by a collector if they have previously collected the 12 unique NFT’s. Otherwise, it will be sold at auction. The funds collected will be donated to a charitable organization. Creativity goes hand in hand with charity.

Better yet, it enhances it! On the openworked dial, the hour and minute hands perform a spellbinding choreography. Each hand is pointing to its respective arc-shaped scale. Once reaching the end of their course, they immediately return to the beginning of their distinctive trajectory. This bi-retrograde display is in turn linked to a tourbillon performing its gyrations on two axes. One completes a rotation in one minute, the other in 24 seconds. The resulting gyroscopic action heightens the precision, provoking emotion.

To complete this hypnotic ballet, the manufacturer perfected its 13^th MP proprietary movement, integrating it into the sculptural, satin-finished titanium case measuring 44 meters in diameter. This manual winding caliber HUB6200 brilliantly delivers on performance. The mechanism affords the watch four days of autonomy. An indicator positioned at 11 o’clock on the dial allows the wearer to determine at any time how much energy is available out of the 96 hours of power reserve available. Entirely composed of 374 different parts, this complex, state-of-the-art mechanism is designed to offer the utmost in simplicity. For instance, the crown of this 50-piece limited-edition serves only one function: to advance the minutes. This function affects the setting of the hours. In order to protect against malfunctions, the hands are not permitted to move backwards. Progressing also implies evolving towards a more advanced stage.
